The Thamud gave the lie to the Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
