Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
