The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif-Laam-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 The Romans are vanquished, 2 In the neighbouring land. But having been conquered they will conquer 3 Within a few years. Allah's is the command before and after; and on that day the believers shall rejoice, 4 with the help of God. He helps whom He pleases: He is the Mighty, and the Merciful. 5 This is Allah's promise and He does not go back on His promise. But most people do not know. 6 They only know the superficial realities of the worldly life and they are unaware of the life to come. 7 Do they not ponder about their own selves? God has created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them for a purpose and for an appointed time? Yet many deny they will ever meet with their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled on the earth and seen how the others before them had met their end? They were far more powerful than them, furrowed the earth and colonised it far more than they; and their apostles came to them with visible signs. It was surely not for God to wrong them, they wronged themselves. 9 Evil was the end of those evil-doers, for they gave the lie to Allah's Signs and scoffed at them. 10
