Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 When he fled unto the laden ship, 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 So the fish swallowed him while he did that for which he blamed himself 142 Had he not been one of those who glorify Allah, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ But We caused him to be cast forth on to the beach, sick as he was, 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more. 147 And they believed, whrefore We let them enjoy life for a season. 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans) say: 151 Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars. 152 Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or do you have a clear authority? 156 Then bring your Book if you are truthful! 157 And they have appointed a relationship between Him and the jinns; and indeed the jinns surely know that they will be brought forth. 158 (They say): “Exalted be Allah above what they attribute to Him, 159 but not so the true servants of God, 160 So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship, 161 Can mislead anyone away from Him, 162 Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire. 163 As for us, there is none but has an appointed station. 164 And verily we! we are ranged in ranks. 165 And we are those who sing hallelujas to Him." 166 Even though they (unbelievers) say, 167 Had we but an admonition as had the ancients. 168 we would certainly be true servants of God." 169 But (now that the Quran has come) they disbelieve therein (i.e. in the Quran and in Prophet Muhammad SAW, and all that which he brought, the Divine Revelation), so they will come to know! 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 That they verily would be made triumphant. 172 and that it is Our host that would certainly triumph. 173 So turn away (O Muhammad SAW) from them for a while, 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 Then for Our punishment are they impatient? 176 When it descends into their courtyard, it will be terrible for those who have already been warned. 177 So turn (away) from them for a while, 178 And watch, for they will soon see. 179 Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they attribute unto Him! 180 So peace be on the messengers, 181 And all the praise and thanks be to Allah, Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 182
