And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 Then he joined the lots, and was of the condemned. 141 And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy; 142 And had he not been of those who hallow Him, 143 he would certainly have remained in its belly till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 and We caused to grow over him a tree of gourds. 146 And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more. 147 They believed in him so We granted them enjoyment for an appointed time. 148 Now ask them (O Muhammad): Hath thy Lord daughters whereas they have sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Behold, it is one of their fabrications that they say: 151 "God has begotten [a son]"; and verily, they are lying [too, when they say,] 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 Will ye not then be admonished? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful. 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 Except His chosen creatures who do not. 160 for, verily, neither you [blasphemers] nor the objects of your worship 161 Not against Him can you cause (any) to fall into trial, 162 Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire. 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 “And indeed we, with our wings spread, await the command.” 165 Verily, we (angels), we are they who glorify (Allah's Praises i.e. perform prayers). 166 And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say; 167 "If only we had a tradition [to this effect] from our forebears, 168 "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!" 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 And indeed Our Word has already gone forth for Our bondmen who were sent. 171 That they would certainly be assisted, 172 and that Our army will be triumphant. 173 So you ignore them for a time 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 Would they hasten on Our doom? 176 Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! 177 And leave them for a time. 178 And see, for they are going to see. 179 Glory be to thy Lord, the Lord of Glory, above that they describe! 180 And peace upon the messengers. 181 and praise be to God, the Lord of all the Worlds. 182
