And certainly We delivered the children of Israel from the abasing chastisement, 30 Inflicted by Pharaoh, for he was arrogant (even) among inordinate transgressors. 31 We knowingly exalted them (i.e., the Children of Israel) above other peoples of the world 32 and bestowed upon them the Signs wherein lay an evident test for them. 33 As to these (Quraish), they say forsooth: 34 There is naught but our first death, and we shall not be raised again. 35 “Therefore bring back our forefathers, if you are truthful!” 36 Are they better or the people of Tubba and those afore them? We destroyed them; verily they were culprits. 37 And We did not create the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, just for play. 38 We did not create them both but with the truth, but most of them do not know. 39 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is the appointed time for them all - 40 A day when friend can in naught avail friend, nor can they be helped, 41 Save those on whom Allah will have mercy. Verily He! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 42
