The Thamud (also) rejected (their) Warners. 23 For they said; Is it a mortal man, alone among us, that we are to follow? Then indeed we should fall into error and madness. 24 Has the reminder been made to light upon him from among us? Nay! he is an insolent liar! 25 "Tomorrow they will know who is the impudent liar! 26 Behold, [O Salih] We are letting loose this she-camel as a test for them; and thou but watch them, and contain thyself in patience. 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns). 28 Eventually, they summoned their companion, and he undertook the (outrageous) task and hamstrung the she-camel. 29 How was then My punishment of which they had been warned? 30 Indeed We sent upon them a single Scream – thereupon they became like the barrier builder’s residual dry trampled hay. 31 And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 32 The people of Lot denied the warning. 33 We let loose on all of them a squall of claystones, except for the house of Lot whom We saved at dawn 34 a blessing from Us; even so We recompense him who is thankful. 35 And assuredly he had warned them of Our grasp, but: they doubted the warnings. 36 And they indeed sought to shame his guest (by asking to commit sodomy with them). So We blinded their eyes, "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 37 Early on the morrow an abiding Punishment seized them: 38 So have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings. 39 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 40
