The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And couches raised up. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
