The Column (Al-Suff)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
All that is in the heavens and all that is on earth extols Allah's glory. He is the Most Mighty, the Most Wise. 1 Believers, why do you profess that which you do not practise? 2 Very hateful is it to God, that you say what you do not. 3 Indeed, Allah loves those who fight in His cause in a row as though they are a [single] structure joined firmly. 4 And [mention, O Muhammad], when Moses said to his people, "O my people, why do you harm me while you certainly know that I am the messenger of Allah to you?" And when they deviated, Allah caused their hearts to deviate. And Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people. 5 And when Jesus son of Mary said: O Children of Israel! Lo! I am the messenger of Allah unto you, confirming that which was (revealed) before me in the Torah, and bringing good tidings of a messenger who cometh after me, whose name is the Praised One. Yet when he hath come unto them with clear proofs, they say: This is mere magic. 6 Who is more unjust than he who invents a lie against God when he is called to submit? God does not show the evil-doers the way. 7 they wish to put His light out with their mouths. But He will perfect His light, much as those who deny the truth may dislike it; 8 It is He who sent His Apostle with the guidance and the true way to raise it above all faiths, however the idolaters may dislike it. 9
