The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he thought; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
