The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be condemned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 He looked (at others); 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
