I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 As a warning unto men, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 about the guilty ones: 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 and rejected the Day of Judgment 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
