The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
