The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 except boiling water and pus 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
