He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
