He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and purified. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover, 28 olives, dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
