He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe of God 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
