He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
