He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fearfully, 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
