The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun is folded up, 1 And when the stars fall down. 2 The mountains made to move, 3 And when milch camels roam abandoned. 4 when the savage beasts are gathered 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 And when the souls are paired 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 for what crime she had been slain, 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 and when heaven is laid bare, 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 when Paradise shall be brought nigh, 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 Rather, I swear by the returning 15 That run their course (and) hide themselves, 16 The closing night, 17 and the first breath of morning. 18 Verily this is the word of a noble message-bearer; 19 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 obeyed, moreover trusty. 21 Your companion (Muhammad) does not suffer from any mental illness 22 He had surely seen Him on the clear horizon. 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 This is naught but an admonition unto the worlds 27 to every one of you who wishes to tread the straight path. 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
