He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
Almighty God's Truth.
