Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 and raised couches, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
