Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 therein a running fountain, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
