Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
