The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
