Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
