The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
