The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 He verily will be content. 21
