The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And affirms goodness, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
