The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
