Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By this luminous Book. 2 We have indeed sent it as a Qur’an in the Arabic language, so that you may understand. 3 and behold, it is in the Essence of the Book, with Us; sublime indeed, wise. 4 Should We divert this Good Counsel from you because you are a people immersed in extravagance? 5 How many a Prophet did We send to the earlier peoples! 6 Yet never did a Prophet come to them but they mocked him. 7 And We destroyed greater than them in [striking] power, and the example of the former peoples has preceded. 8 If you ask them: "Who created the heavens and the earth?" they will answer: "The Mighty and All-knowing created them," 9 He it is Who made this earth for you a cradle and made in it pathways for you that you may find the way to your destination; 10 And Who sent down water from the sky with a proper measure, so We revived a dead city with it; this is how you will be taken out. 11 And He it is who has created all opposites. And He [it is who] has provided for you all those ships and animals whereon you ride, 12 so that you may sit firmly on their backs. Then once you have mounted them, remember your Lord's favour and say, "Glory be to Him who has subjected these creatures to us; we would never on our own have subdued them. 13 Surely we have to go back to our Lord." 14 The pagans have considered some of His servants as His children. There is no doubt that the human being is simply ungrateful. 15
