۞ (Then will the command be given): “Muster all the wrong-doers and their spouses and the deities whom they used to serve 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 They will say: verily ye! ye were wont to come unto us Imposing. 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 We mislead you and we ourselves had also gone astray." 32 Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 and said, "Should we give up our idols for the sake of an insane poet". 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 40 there is waiting for them a known provision; 41 fruits of various kinds; and they shall be honoured, 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 clear, delightful to those who drink it: 46 There will neither be any harm in it for their body nor will it intoxicate their mind. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 (Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved. 49 They will turn to one another with questions: 50 The speaker among them said, “I had a companion.” – 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 (Another will say:)"Is it true, we are not going to die 58 except for our first death? Are we not going to be punished? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell. 68 They found their father going astray 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 Most of the ancient people had also gone astray. 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
