Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 And the night when it departs, 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 A warning unto humankind 36 A warning unto him of you who shall go forward or who chooseth to lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” 43 we fed not the needy, 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
