The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
