And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 "My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity." 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 "So now we do not have any intercessors." 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 And indeed your Lord - only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
