Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 And he gave a little, then refrained? 34 Has he the knowledge of the unseen so that he can see? 35 Or has he not been told of what is in the scrolls of Moses, 36 And of Ibrahim who faithfully fulfilled? 37 That no laden one shall bear another's load, 38 and that man shall have nothing but what he has striven for, 39 And that his striving shall soon be seen- 40 whereupon he shall be requited for it with the fullest requital; 41 that all things in the end shall return to God; 42 That it is He who makes you happy and morose, 43 And that it is He (Allah) Who causes death and gives life; 44 That He did create in pairs,- male and female, 45 From a drop of semen when emitted; 46 And that He hath ordained the second bringing forth; 47 and that it is He who gives wealth and riches, 48 And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius 49 And that He destroyed the former 'A-ad. 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace of them, 51 and the people of Noah; they were the most unjust and rebellious people. 52 and He overthrew the subverted cities [of Sodom and Gomorrah] 53 and caused them to be covered with that which He covered them with. 54 How many favours of your Lord will you then deny? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The Hour that was to come draws ever nearer. 57 None, except Allah, can avert it. 58 Do you marvel then at this discourse (the Koran)? 59 Why do you laugh rather than weep? 60 And you are lost in play! 61 Bow instead in adoration before God and worship Him. ۩ 62
