Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
