The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
