Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Join My servants. 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
