[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 gardens, and springs. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
