(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
