۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 “Instead of Allah and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 What aileth you that ye help not one another? 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will answer, “You yourselves did not have faith!” 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 Therefore, on that Day they will all share Our punishment. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 saying, 'What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?' 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise), 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby. 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 Who said: What! are you indeed of those who accept (the truth)? 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 'By Allah' he will say, 'you almost destroyed me! 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Verily, this - this indeed - is the triumph supreme!" 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of AzZakkum! 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 Then they will have on top of it a mixture of boiling water. 67 Then their return will be to the same blazing Hell. 68 They had found their fathers astray, 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
