The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 Then they advised Pharaoh: 'Put off Moses and his brother for a while, and send forth heralds to your cities 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 Answered [Pharaoh]: "Yes; and verily, you shall be among those who are near unto me." 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 We inspired Moses to throw his staff, and suddenly it began to swallow-up all that the magicians had (falsely) invented. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said: 'What! Do you believe before you have my permission? Surely this is a plot you have contrived to drive out the rulers from the capital. So you shall see, 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.' 126
