Some of the Pharaoh's nobles considered him to be no more than a skillful magician 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 who should bring to you every skillful magician." 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)." 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 So the (great ones) were vanquished there and then, and were made to look small. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 And you do not take revenge on us except because we have believed in the communications of our Lord when they came to us! Our Lord: Pour out upon us patience and cause us to die in submission. 126
