The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
