The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. THESE ARE MESSAGES of revelation - of a discourse clear in itself and clearly showing the truth. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 And yet, they [who deny the truth] say: "O thou unto whom this reminder has [allegedly] been bestowed from on high: verily, thou art mad! 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We do not send angels except with the truth. Then they shall have no respite. 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 they would still have said: "Surely our eyes have been dazzled; rather, we have been enchanted." 15

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
