And indeed We did send Musa (Moses) with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs (inviting them to Allah's Religion of Islam) He said: "Verily, I am a Messenger of the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)." 46 But when he brought them Our signs, at once they laughed at them. 47 although each sign that We showed them was weightier than the preceding one: and [each time] We took them to task through suffering, so that they might return [to Us]. 48 'Sorcerer' they said, 'pray to your Lord for us in accordance to the covenant He has made with you, and surely we shall be rightly guided' 49 But when We removed from them the chastisement, behold, they broke their troth. 50 And said Firaun, “O my people! Is not the kingdom of Egypt for me, and these rivers that flow beneath me? So do you not see?” 51 Nay! I am better than this fellow, who is contemptible, and who can hardly speak distinctly: 52 “So why was he not bestowed with armlets of gold? Or angels should have come with him staying at his side!” 53 Thus he made light (of the matter) to his people, and they obeyed him. They were certainly wicked. 54 So, when they had angered Us, We took vengeance on them, and We drowned them all together; 55 and We made them a thing past, and We appointed them for an example to later folk. 56
