The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the Book and the glorious Quran. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 and no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 5 They say: "O you to whom the Admonition has been revealed, you are surely crazed. 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
