When the Messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They said, “In fact we have brought to you the matter which these people doubted.” 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 "Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered." 65 And We revealed to him this decree, that the roots of these shall be cut off in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 He said: verily these are my guests, so disgrace me not. 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They said, "Did we not forbid you to extend hospitality to strangers?" 70 He said: These are my daughters, if you will do (aught). 71 Verily by your life they were utterly confused in their (lustful) drunkenness. 72 But the (mighty) Blast overtook them before morning, 73 We laid it (the city) upside down and rained stones of baked clay upon them. 74 Herein are really signs for those who discern. 75 And indeed that township is upon a road still in use. 76 Indeed in that is a sign for the believers. 77 Certainly the dwellers in the Thicket were evildoers, 78 So We exacted retribution from them. They were both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
