Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 It has been revealed through the trustworthy Spirit 193 to your heart that you might become one of those who warn (others on behalf of Allah), 194 It has been revealed in plain Arabic. 195 And most surely the same is in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a token for them that the doctors of the Children of Israel know it? 197 If We had sent it down on a barbarian 198 And he had recited it unto them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Even so We have caused it to enter into the hearts of the sinners, 200 They will not believe in it until they clearly see the grievous chastisement. 201 So it will come upon them suddenly, whilst they will be unaware. 202 Then they will say: Are we to be reprieved? 203 Seek haste then they with our torment? 204 Do you not see that even if We give them respite for years 205 And then there cometh unto them that which they had been promised. 206 of what avail to them will be all their past enjoyments? 207 Never a city We destroyed, but it had warners 208 As a reminder; and never have We been unjust. 209 And the satans have not brought it down. 210 It is not allowable for them, nor would they be able. 211 The satans are barred from listening to anything from the heavens. 212 Therefor invoke not with Allah another god, lest thou be one of the doomed. 213 Warn your nearest kinsmen, 214 And lower your wing to those who follow you of the believers. 215 If they disobey you, say, "I bear no responsibility for what you do." 216 Put your trust in the Almighty, the Most Merciful, 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up (to pray) 218 And your turning over and over among those who prostrate themselves before Allah. 219 Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 220 Shall I tell you on whom the Satans come down? 221 They come down on every guilty impostor. 222 Who give ear, and most of them are liars. 223 And as to the poets, those who go astray follow them. 224 Art thou not aware that they roam confusedly through all the valleys [of words and thoughts,] 225 And that they say what they practise not?- 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
